Are you curious of Pinterest – for business and pleasure
You and 21 % of US internet users are on Pinterest. That is a 40% increase from the year before. The vast majority on Pinterest are women, they are of all age groups and the platform is growing strongly (Business insider). Pinterest is not as big in Europe yet, but it is growing there as well.
Pinterest comes in the 5-6th place amongst social media like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google+ and Twitter. And Pinterest is both fun and useful for your business.
You can find all kind of interesting things on Pinterest. A lot of DIY, fashion and health. But did you know that there are more than 2 million tech boards and 36 million tech pins on Pinterest (Pinterest blog)?
Pinterest for Inspiration
Pinterest is an outstanding place to look for information and inspiration – both for business and private. Pinterest is also an excellent tool to drive traffic to your website or webshop (more on that in the next post).
Here are some examples.
If you are a hairdresser or just looking for a new nice hairdo for an upcoming party Pinterest is the place to go.
This is what you find if you search for “Hairstyle” http://bit.ly/1wQ1gSU
Did you find anything nice there?
Or if you are a gardener or florist or maybe a bride to be – you might want to look for some inspiration about how to decorate the garden during a wedding.

Or if you are a yoga instructor or just practice yoga you might want some ideas.

Maybe you are an architect or just want a new fireplace to your home – this is where to go to get some feeling on what is available out there.
As you can see, you can find a lot of inspiration both private and for your business on Pinterest.
And – When you have found a board, person, brand or product you like, you can start to follow them and re-pin to friends that might be interested.
Pinterest for storing and finding information
In the beginning I used Pinterest to store information/links that I wanted to return to. I grouped my boards for my various areas of interest – such as Web Design, Marketing Ideas, WordPress, Social Media etc. Since Pinterest is based on images, it was easy to remember what the pin was all about and I always had a link back to the interesting website.
Nowadays I also search for information on Pinterest. Like for finding information for this post.
Showcase your Products & Services
Pinterest is also great for showcasing your products and services to the world.
With a nice picture, a good description and a link to more information you open up to great possibilities for your product to reach the right customers.
Satisfied and curious customers will follow you and re-pin your work. They might even follow the product directly to the webshop by a link you have provided and buy the product there and then. Bingo!
Here is an example from Velwyn Yossy selling fashion illustrations. Click on the picture and see what information they give about this illustration.
On my next post I will give you more information on how to optimize your company profile on Pinterest and how to drive traffic to your website.
Now to you – Have you been on Pinterest yet? What is your favourites on Pinterest?
Ha! That is great Toni! 🙂
I am LOVING Pinterest. Just started using is 2 months ago and I feel smarter and more creative already. Ha!
Thanks Donna, Yes it is real fun and useful. I will hurry up to write my next post. See you around. 🙂
Yes Bekah, it is fun and interesting. Lots of inspiration!
Glad to hear Kimber. Pinterst has so many fun functions. I am increasing my presens continously. See you there!
Well Amanda, it is impossible to be everywhere so I am sure you have enough engagement in other social media already. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Kirsten, Can’t say anything else than I fully agree. Fun!
Thanks Lorelle, I am getting into it more and more myself. So many fun things to find! 🙂
Thanks Delia. You are a role model for Pinterest. I loved this Googl hangout you had about Pinterst http://youtu.be/3pYhjYu-SOw
Thanks Rachel, No you are right regarding Instagram – you can only provide one link on your profile. But it is possible to change that link as many times as you want – so if you have a blogpost and want to promot it on instagram you can refer to your link in your profile and have the link there temporarely. If you want. I am not into Instagram so much at the moment but it is a growing platform so it might be a good idea. 🙂
I haven’t been using Pinterest much for looking things up, but I have been using it to post photos from my blog (or at least the better ones) in the hope it will bring people to my blog. The great thing about Pinterest is just that: there’s an easy link on each pinned item back to where it came from. As far as I can tell, Instagram doesn’t have that.
I love looking for color inspiration and awesome photos on Pinterest. So much that I have to limit the time I spend there because it easily becomes a black hole, haha! Thanks for sharing your tips, Eva!
I love pinterest Eva. I have found its a great place to hunt for anything, recipes, wardrobe ideas hairstyles, how to’s for almost anything. I’m using it for a mix between business and pleasure so looking forward to more hints and tips
I love Pinterest and I use it for everything! Recipes, books I want to read, places I want to go, advertising my blog posts. It seems there is nothing Pinterest cannot do. Great post, stopping by from Delia’s challenge.
I’ve heard mixed things about Pinterest from a variety of people. Some love it, others hate it. Some seem to get good traffic from it while others stagnate. I haven’t tried it myself but I suppose it depends who your target audience is and what your strategy is. I’m not really sure if it’s a resource that is for me though.
Pinterest is so fun! I’ve used it to bookmark things, and now that I have a website, I’m learning to use it to spread my content. I’m loving any little tips I can get!
I ask myself often what we did before Pinterest. It truly is an incredible resource.
Eva, I love Pinterest! Up until now, I have used it just for my personal enjoyment. I love pretty pictures. But I am slowly starting to realize I should look at doing more with it for my blog. I look forward to your next post, to see what tips you have to offer. When this Facebook challenge is over, it will be next on my list!
